How many stair treads do you need?
Count the number of steps you actually walk on, not the number of risers. A Jsei 15-pack of stair treads covers 15 walkable steps; most US single-family staircases have 13–16. If you plan to leave the top landing bare, subtract one.
Count the treads(the flat surfaces) from the bottom step to the top floor — do not count the landing.
Deduct any step you want to leave bare, such as a carpeted top step already covered.
Add one spare if the staircase gets heavy pet traffic, since one tread will be in the wash.
Round up to the pack size — a 15-pack for 13 steps is normal, and spares are useful at the most-used step.
Do non-slip stair treads damage wood stairs or leave residue?
A TPR self-grip backing does not need adhesive, so there is no glue residue to sand off. The real risks to a wood staircase are trapped moisture and grit under the mat, both of which are controlled by lifting the treads periodically and keeping them dry.
Clean and dry the step before the first installation — dust stops the backing from contacting the wood.
Press the full surface for 30 seconds, especially the nosing area where feet land.
Test with five firm steps on the tread before using the staircase normally.
Lift and wipe every 4–6 weeks in humid months; air dry both the step and the tread before re-laying.
How do you measure stair treads before ordering?
Polypropylene is the better choice where water and grease dominate, because the fibre repels liquid instead of absorbing it. Polyester is the better choice where foot comfort matters more, because the pile is softer — but spills must be wiped promptly.

Stair treads are the safer choice when the staircase is wood, the household has a dog or an older adult, and you want the option to remove and wash each piece. A stair runner is the safer choice when the staircase is already carpeted or when you want continuous coverage with no gaps between pieces.

What is a bullnose stair tread?
A bullnose tread has a rounded front edge that wraps over the nosing of the step. It protects the most worn part of a wood stair and removes the sharp lip a toe or paw can catch on.
Will stair treads work on carpeted stairs?
Not reliably. A TPR backing needs a hard, smooth surface to grip; on carpet, two soft surfaces slide against each other. Use treads on bare wood, tile or vinyl stairs.
How do I keep stair treads from shifting when a dog runs up?
Press the tread down across its full area for 30 seconds on a clean dry step, then test it with five firm steps. If a tread still creeps, the step likely has wax, polish or dust on it — clean with a damp cloth and let it dry fully.
Can stair treads be cut to fit an odd step width?
Cutting a tread exposes the backing edge, so trim only where the cut will sit against a wall, and keep the bound edge on the open side. Measure twice: width, depth and nosing shape all matter.
Are stair treads safe for toddlers and pets?

Fit my stairs perfect and seem well made. The anti slip on the backside of these is excellent. They don't move at all on my stairs and they've been down for a few weeks now. The color is as described. One of the best things is they are machine washable. Wow! I would order again and suggest these to others.

Although they say they are for wooden steps, we used them on our basement stairs which are painted concrete. They work perfectly! No slip, really improved the grip going up and down the stairs. We are also testing them under one of our desks that has wooden floor, in the picture we haven't stuck them in place yet but you can see how they would fit. My wife likes that they are machine washable so if we track in mud or dirt from the garden we can clean them easily. When I was installing them I found it easy to lift and adjust them, not sure what the sticky stuff is but it really works like they say.

Love these self adhesive stair pads. They protect the stairs and add comfort to them. The color is neutral and will match most decors. Very good purchase.

I got these for my mom, who took a spill going up her steps a couple of months ago when her toe caught under a carpet that had slid off the step. These have a backing on them that keeps them from sliding easily. It's not an adhesive, they can be easily moved. But it's just tacky enough to keep them where you put them.There were enough of these to go on the basement flight and also a couple of areas in the house. They're great quality and look good.

The rubber treads we had on our stairs were not only ugly, but also decades old. I've been wanting to replace them since we bought our house 10 years ago, but couldn't find anything budget friendly that wasn't paper thin and only half the size of our steps. When I saw these, they looked plush and were wide enough to cover almost our entire step. As soon as I got them in the mail, I ripped up the old ugly rubber treads, wiped down the stairs (even though they need a good sanding and staining) and put these on immediately. I was skeptical about the rubber backing and was worried they might slide, but there was nothing to be concerned about. I slowly walked down my steps to test them and the treads didn't move at all. I noticed right away how much quieter my steps were to walk down and how much more comfortable since the carpeting is nice and plush. My husband (who hates everything) has mentioned twice now that he really likes these and is very happy with them. He wants to know why we didn't get them sooner! To add, I order the beige and I'm not worried about them getting dirty because they can just be popped into the washer and be put right back on the step which is a nice bonus. Just for caution, these arrived semi-folded over and may need a little bit of time for the crease in the middle to flatten.

These stair treads actually work in two areas of our house. We need to paint our basement steps before placing the stair treads down, but we had enough left over to place on areas of our kitchen floor providing a non-slip area for our elderly dog. She has very poor mobility at 16 years of age and slips on wood and tile floors. I strategically placed these treads leading to her water and food dish so it would make it easier for her to get to. These treads are so much better than others I've used due to the fact that they are easy to place down and pull up without leaving sticky residue stuck to wood or tile which is hard to remove. They can also be washed. They are a good quality material and feel soft on bare feet. The edges are sewn very neatly and should be able to handle a lot of traffic on the stairs. They provide safety for everyone in the house - including the dog!

I love these, I've been looking for something like them for as long as I've lived in my house and I haven't been able to find anything this good. The sticky backing is awesome, they are firm in place when you put them down and they are not too hard to pull up if you need to move or wash one. It can be a bit of a pain placing them all down evenly, but after the first time it's not too hard as long as you don't wash them all at once! It's not bad lining 2 or 3 up at a time and then they are in place to line up the next ones you wash! Great product with clear instructions. Definitely recommend these!

These are good, utilitarian stair treads which are a little bit wider front to back, at 9"x28". Putting them in place was easy, but the peeling of the plastic backing is the most annoying part. What I love about these is that the manufacturer used a thicker, stronger plastic from other treads I've had in the past. THANK YOU to them for doing that! It makes them so much easier to peel off and apply, and makes a huge difference, especially for those who may have limited hand dexterity. For that, I give five stars.They are decently soft - not the softest I've ever had, but they appear to be VERY durable. I think these are best for a high traffic area of your home. The stitched edges give them a finished look and help prevent fraying. They are carpeted and machine washable, and I've washed treads like these in the past without any issues. These will definitely make the stairs quieter and less slippery. Additionally, they seem like a very good value for the money as usually treads are much more expensive, though you are only getting 14 in this set when usually there are 15.Overall, I think these treads are a great value and will definitely have its ideal applications. They look good, feel strong and durable, and provide better traction than bare wood. If you want a simple, affordable way to protect your stairs and add a little style, these do the job well. These are perfect stair treads. They fit on my stairs and look really nice. They can be cleaned easily and look good as new. They are very durable so far and I would definitely order them again. They are non slip and I never feel them moving or slipping around. They are very nice.

These carpet treads are nicer than most I have ordered. They are plush and really made nice! I ordered them to put on the stairs to the basement and it really changed the look completely! They were easy to apply. The stairs are now non slip, they really grip. These treads are built to last. I think they would look good on any stair not just the basement.
